Development Island - Converting an email account to use SMTP Auth with Microsoft Outlook Express

This guide details how to convert an existing email account with Outlook Express to use SMTP Auth.
  1. Firstly open up Outlook Express.
  2. Next click on the "Tools" menu at the top of the window then select "Accounts...".




  3. The Accounts window will appear. Now click once on your mail account in the main part of the window and then click the "Properties" button.




  4. The properties for this mail account will now appear in a new window. Please check the SMTP and POP3 server names already entered in the boxes provided. Use the image below for the correct names to enter or see our Email information page. Tick the box at the bottom of this window labeled "My server requires authentication". Then click on the "Settings..." button to open the SMTP Auth properties.




  5. Make sure that the "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" is checked, this will grey out all other options on this window as shown below. When done click "OK" to close this window.




  6. Click "OK" to all open windows until you are back at the main Outlook Express window. Your email account should now be setup correctly to send and receive email through our servers.
